VHS DVD Transfer Services
Besides video production, I also offer VHS DVD Transfer Services. And as we all know the season of gift giving is just weeks away, and family home videos – transferred onto DVD’s or USB thumb drive via video file – make wonderful gifts, stocking stuffers, etc.
Why transfer VHS to DVD?
First – VCR’s are becoming obsolete and probably will be impossible to buy in five years, unless you get one at a yard sale. Learn more here. DVD players, Blu-Ray players and the ability to watch videos on computers have replaced VCR’s. So if you want to watch those old home VHS movies, you need to have them transferred very soon.
Second – VHS tapes, much like 8 mm, Super 8 mm, and 16 mm film, become brittle through the years and break. Some are repairable, some are not. If not repairable – your home movies are lost.
Third – storage conditions can also ruin VHS tapes, particularly those stored in damp conditions like basements, even if they are in a case. You can actually see mold on tapes – fuzzy white dust, and usually these tapes can not be transferred to DVD as VCR rollers become clogged with the dust. My machine will sometimes completely reject a tape with mold on it.
Fourth, besides transferring to DVD’s your VHS tapes can also be converted to a video file, which you can save onto your hard drives or store on USB thumb drives. Saves space & storage.
Lastly, home videos – long forgotten about – make great gifts!
Now for my own home video!
Here is a short 16 mm film I shot in 1992 while attending Emerson College. I recently transferred it to a movie file and edited it to music. It stars my Grandmother and her dog, Sandy.
